Guess it's time to go there...

So I really didn't want to hit anything political right away... but I couldn't resist.

Not to long ago a friend of mine posted a status update on facebook that read something like this... Name Here "is sad that abortion is being federally funded again." Obviously it received a significant number of comments. Two in particular stuck out to me.

The first being... "I wonder what all the Christians who voted for Obama think now?" Or something like that. I didn't vote for him, so I couldn't answer that. However, in response to it, a young man that I know, who happens to live in another country is a big Obama fan, and happens to be a Christian. His response was something like this... "Poloitics are about more than obortion. And other countries are finally starting to like the U.S. again."

So my question is this. If Jesus were walking the earth today, would he feel that politics, and the relationship between countries around the world or the life of unborn children is more important?

And why?

I don't know that Jesus cared about politics. The only time He ever got angry was at the way the Temple was being run. Other then that He stayed out of government and politics.

He lived in one of the most morally bankrupt civilizations EVER and didn't spend His time focusing on how awful the government was or the disgusting morals that surrounded Him (the gladiatorial shows, slavery, even abortions! http://www.afn.org/~afn32612/Contraception.htm)

Instead, He focused on people. Loving people. And it changed the world one loved heart at a time.

I think that Jesus would want us to do what He asked of us which is 1. Love Him and 2. Love others. We can't love others effectively without first loving Him.

And then, once we have established ourselves in Him and loving Him, when we focus on people we can help them to see themselves the way He sees them. As loved and cherished by God so much that He would die for them. Not judged by us for the problems they have. We are not to judge them because that's not our place. We don't know their hearts, only He does.

Christians (myself included) need to get up out of their comfort zones and help people/love on people. Like Jesus did and then maybe we'll see the changes we want to see.

However, I do need to mention that He did give Christians instructions on the way we should live to honor Him but He did not say that we should expect nonchristians to live this way because they do not have the same expectations we, as Christians, have.

Well, that's my 2 cents. This whole election has really gotten me thinking about all of these things and in my mind it really just boils down to love God, love people. And when we do that everything else falls into place.

Sorry, I didn't quite finish what I wanted to say in the post.

The only question at hand isn't WWJD. Beyond that it is, what would be MORE important in his eyes. Which Shelley answered pretty well... But also, what do YOU think?

Life or Politics?

I guess what I was trying to say is that I don't believe that politics are important to Him.

And also rather than trying to change people through laws He'd change them through Himself. Abortion is wrong. It's awful. It's an abomination to Him. But so is lying. So is stealing. No sin is worse than any other sin and abortion is no different.

If Christians put as much effort in making abortion 'unthinkable' as they do in making it 'illegal' I believe the number of abortions would dramatically decrease.

Let's address the root issue: an issue of the heart and stop trying to put a band-aid on a festering wound.
